Surfing Sunshine...

This weather has been awesome! It makes me wanna jump into a 1987 Jeep Wagoneer and strap my surfboard on top. Then drive to Laguna beach, catch some waves and rays.

Sadly, I do not have a surfboard or a Jeep Wagoneer. I do however enjoy the surf scene of the 1950’s and 1960’s. It seemed like a simpler time of hanging out with your buddies and chilling on the beach. There are so many vintage movies from that time period ,that get you into the spirit of the surfer nostalgia of Hawaii and California. Nothing beats having a fire on the beach and watching the sunset, while listening to music. Man, where is that time machine when you need it.

I have checked out Cali and loved it, but never been to Hawaii. It seems like it’s a very laid back style as well. Not going to lie, that may be my next vacation spot to check out. Hit up the beaches, check out the food, Mai Tais and just chill all day. Maybe I’ll love it so much I’ll never leave. I can surf all day and eat all night. (Spam is good in Hawaii, or so I heard.)

I may not get to Hawaii for awhile, but in the meantime , I can bring that style of summer living here. The summer in Buffalo comes and goes so quickly, maybe we should all just chill, enjoy the sunshine and not be in a rush to get to the wintertime.

Let's go fly a kite

So I know we are in the middle of winter, but with today being in the 50’s in Buffalo, it got me thinking of Spring. Flying kites is a great hobby for anyone. I haven’t flown a kite in a while, but this year I look forward to finding a kite and actually going to fly it high in the sky. It’s like kite flying is a lost art. I rarely see families take their children out on a windy Saturday and go hang out in the park. If anyone wants to join when this weather is back to being a breezy warm temperature, let me know. Who knows maybe we can even make it the monthly Kite Club, and make t-shirts. hahahaha

Fly so high ,

up in the sky.

Fish out of water

Remember playing Marco Polo? If you haven’t played that game you either are lying or are just weird person. Classic childhood game of tag but in water and the tagger has his eyes closed. Whenever we played there was always that one kid who would jump out of the pool quietly and stand on the pool deck to hide. i always thought it was cheating but hey sometimes all that matters is winning a simple game of Marco Polo. (was there ever a winner though? Don’t answer that, it’s rhetorical.) Anyways if the tagger found out you were out of the water, they would yell “Fish out of water!!” If you got caught out of water, you became the tagger. I don’t know why I am explaining this game to you since we all know how to play. hahaha

Anyways, “Fish out of water” that statement got me thinking about it recently and how so many people struggle with fitting in.

Why do we feel the need to always fit in or be part of the crowd. Honestly time and time again we have to feel validated.

At a bar- “ I’ll have what she’s having”

Wearing new clothes- “ What you guys think of my overpriced t-shirt?”

I am guilty of it as well, but my entire life I’ve tried to just do my own thing and be my own person. It’s helped me become who I am today. There are so many cookie cutter people in this world making it a boring place. Have some fun, enjoy yourself. If you like to eat Oreos for breakfast go ahead and do that. You eat macaroni and cheese with ketchup, you be you bro. You like the show Friends?….cool. hahaha

Stop with the compartmentalizing of yourself and picking and choosing what to show and hide from others. Start accepting who you are and life is going to be 10000x better than what it is now.

Enough of this rant, I got to go boil some eggs ,

Life gives you Lemons

This sunshine has gotten me thinking about how staying positive is the only way to live. Life will always give you lemons. There are also days where I want to be alone and curl up and sulk in sorrow. However, You can either pucker up and always have a sour outlook on the day to day, or make lemonade and enjoy that sweet sweet drink.

I noticed the older I become the harder it is to stay youthful and positive. With so much drama going on and war, strife and craziness it’s easy to fall in line with everyone else and be bitter. (Just read social media) I ask you to fight that urge. Be the happiness in this world. Resist that urge to have that sour look on your face 24/7. Your outlook on life truly defines how “Lucky” you are. I don’t believe in luck but I feel you are open to more awesome opportunities, the more positive and youthful you are. I mean who enjoys cynical people.

Never lose that youthfulness we all have. Surround yourself with people are positive and happy most of the time. Life is so much more fun and grand with people like that.

Go out and play!

Go on a run and sweat!

Enjoy the warm breeze!

Drink that cold beverage and eat that chocolate cake!

Enough with this attitude of pessimistic nihilism. We aren’t helping anyone.

Cheers to the Weekend

Sipping

something sweet.

Under blue clear skies

and dirt beneath my feet.

Nothing to worry about

Just libations and relaxations,

for today and our futures selfs due to

the sacrifices they made,

to keep us safe.

Families and friends ,

together forever,

until this 3 day weekend

finally ends.

This weekend is one of my favorite weekends to enjoy with family and friends!

To celebrate and eat until my stomachs content. I feel like I am Templeton from “Charlotte’s Web” eating all the leftover food from the carnival and overindulging on all the sweets and junk food.

It’s the official start of summer here In Buffalo, NY, when Memorial weekend is here. The beaches are open and kind of warm. Sunshine is normally here to stay (except for today). No more snow until Christmas is on its way.

None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for all the military members past and present who have kept us safe. They paid the ultimate sacrifice dying for our freedom throughout all these years. Let’s never forget that.

Take a minute this weekend to reflect and thank all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Without them, we would be nothing and would not be enjoying our ice-cold brews, smoky bbq ribs, and steam clams on the grill.
